Stinky Birthday Cupcakes

In honor of our never-ending glee over conquering skunks that were invading our shed and possibly killing our chickens, Sweetie made skunk cupcakes for Precious's birthday celebration.

The tails were made of sugar cookies cut in the right shape; the noses and ears were jelly beans and the eyes were tiny M-n-M type candies.
They were good and lots of fun.

The directions came from What's New Cupcake? by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson.

Kitchen Cupboard Beautification Project Finished

While we had both our men home over the Christmas season, I was excited that they were able to help us finish our woodburned kitchen cupboard.

We had an old microwave shelf on the wall which wasn't being used well, so out it went and in it's place went this beauty.

I had bought the cupboard as a bare oak cupboard and wrote a paraphrase of some verses from Ecclesiates on the doors. Then Princess drew cherries and grape clusters and squiglies on the door frames with pencil. Sweetie then used her woodburner to burn those drawings into the wood. She also put some flowers down the center which are somewhat like Forget-Me-Nots.

I stained it to somewhat match our other cupboards and then varnished it all. Boy, it was hard to find regular old varnish! So much of it has polyurethane added to it.

So, now we keep our teas, teaballs and teapots in this lovely cupboard which our men put up for us.

Words of Wisdom Wednesday - The Importance of the Household

The household is the God-ordained seat of education. It is the first place where we are to develop and communicate a distinctively Christian aesthetic for culture. The home is not to be relegated to a mere place for consumption, but transformed into a powerful tool for industry and production. In the household (not the state welfare agency) we find God’s true pattern for multi-generational, covenantal care. The home, not even the temple or church meeting house, has always been the God-ordained primary locus for daily worship. Our homes not only provide us with a platform to honor God’s non-optional command for one-anothering and hospitality, but they were designed to be the most powerful forums for evangelism and discipleship in the Christian’s arsenal.

New Year Organization

So, I'm seeing that I'm not the only one in the world who feels a strong need to reorganize their homes, schedules and overall life at this time of the year. With all the new Christmas aquisitions as well as the recent disruptions to normal routines, I feel like I need to get life under control. Even before Christmas, things were kind of crazy what with my huggy's recent change of job and the oilfield schedule with which we live.

To help me in this endeavor, I've just discovered a fun site that looks like it has lots of good ideas and advice. It's http://orgjunkie.com. Last year she did a 52 Weeks of organizing that looks like it helped a lot of people. Since I just discovered her site, I'm too late for that but may just use those posts to help keep me on track.

Meanwhile, I couldn't stand the state of my refrigerator anymore, so I went at it with a vengeance, emptying it completely, washing everything and then putting it all back with labels and containers to help keep things organized. Now to get my five helper ladies to maintain it!

So, do you want to join me in a little organizing, home improvement fun? Let's encourage each other to good things!
